(5-6 year olds by August 31st)
The Shetland league or "Tee Ball," is an instructional league for boys and girls. Peters Township Baseball Association has formatted the league to emphasize basic instruction in all aspects of fundamental baseball. To help develop the overall skill of each player, a thirty minute instructional session is incorporated at the beginning of each game. This instructional session will focus on the basics of throwing, fielding, hitting and base running in a fun and positive environment.
Shetland Overview:
- A softer "squishy" ball is used to ensure a safer environment for younger children.
- All children participate and trophies are awarded at the end of each season.
- Uniform shirts and hats are provided under the registration fee. Pants, gloves, helmets and bats are not provided & should be purchased.
- Games are played at Venetia Field
- Games are three innings and are scheduled for two hours.
- Children will hit off a "T" during the first inning and will then be pitched to by a coach during subsequent innings.
- Parents of players will be asked to contribute to the operation of their team by the team manager. This includes: helping at practice & games (if eligible), field preparation, managing the bench and batting lineup, and providing post-game snacks.
- Uniforms and lottery books will be distributed by each teams manager at the start of the season.
- Games/Practices: In Shetland, games and practices are combined so that each session consists of 30-45 minutes of practice followed by a 45-minute game. In the Spring, you can expect 2 games per week, generally 1 on a weeknight and 1 on a weekend day. Schedules do vary, however.
The goal of Shetland is to develop a basic understanding of baseball, fundamental skills, support early athletic development of children and have FUN!
