Mustang League Overview

(9-10 year olds by April 30th)

Overview:

  • In Mustang we strive to develop proficiency in pitching, catching, hitting, base running, fielding, and throwing skills, as well as a better understanding of the concepts and strategies of the game. More emphasis is placed on skill development.
  • Like Shetland and Pinto, emphasis is placed on keeping the game moving, providing as many "touch opportunities" as possible and having a fun, positive experience.
  • Team rosters of no more than 12 players (only 10 play in the field).
  • 3 outs or 5 runs max per inning.
  • Mound distance is 46 feet
  • Two games per week and one or two practices per week.
  • Scorebook is kept.
  • Paid adult and/or youth umpires.
  • Stealing is allowed after the pitch passes home plate, and base runners may advance on passed balls.
  • All teams make the playoffs, and trophies or T-shirts are awarded to the winner. A secondary award is given to the runner up.

Schedule:

  • Practices begin early-April and the season will run until late June.
  • Practices and games will be held throughout the week and on Saturdays on a set schedule, weather dependent.
  • Practice slots are 90 minutes and games usually last approximately 2 hours.

Playing Time and Positions:

  • Ten (10) defensive players in the field; there is a minimum playing time requirement for players, see the Mustang rulebook for more information.

Development Objectives:

  • For 1st year Mustang players, the focus is on learning the fundamentals of pitching, catching, base stealing and refining player's existing skills while maintaining safety and encouraging sportsmanship. For the 2md year player, the focus is on continuing to develop these skills and traits.
  • Advancing skill development for fielding, throwing, batting and base running
  • Development Goal - Have FUN and advance baseball skills in a more competitive league where the focus is still on development and instruction.

  • Player provides baseball glove, baseball pants, and cleats
  • League provides a team hat and jersey
  • League provides needed catchers equipment

Awards and Recognition:

The Goal of the Mustang League is to develop the skills needed to advance to Bronco

We hope to see you at the ball field this Spring!
